Commercial Radio?
Cutting of Daily Mirror editorial comment some time in May or June 1964.

Nine years after this editorial comment, local radio became a reality in the UK when Capital Radio started broadcasting on the 16th October 1973, 6 days after LBC (with a focus on news) started, also in London. The great thing about these stations is that they brought a London "character" to the airwaves.
Now all we have left in the UK are monopolies. Every "local" station seems to be called "Heart" or "Capital" or "Connect" or similar bland names.
We do have the restricted licences which have brought some local flavour back into the airwaves, but sadly, many of them are just a rehash of the now defunct "Gold" radio station.
